CASTORO (Beaver in Italian signifying perseverance and hard work)
– a classic parquet
Hardwood parquet is completely natural, made of high quality wood and undergoes rigid controls at its origin in the Croatian woods. We produce hardwood parquet in over 30 different dimensions and there are a number of different categories. Check if the signs on the package correspond to the signs on your receipt.
Type of shipment: a) left or right parquet, b) left and right parquet
Ways of positioning the parquet: Straight positioning, fish-bone, double fish-bone, and English embroidery.
Note:
For some of the afore mentioned ways of positioning the parquet, it is necessary to use the left and right parquet.
PREPARATION OF THE BASE:
Nowadays the praxis shows that most causes of the damaged parquets and other wooden floor surfaces are caused by the incorrect or un-systematic preparation of the floor basis. Because of this the base needs to be completely worked and prepared to position the parquet more easily without any difficulties. In other words, the correct preparation of the floor base (dry, straight and firm) is a precondition for correctly carrying out parquet positioning. It is a necessary and only sure way of positioning the parquet and at the same time it is important to take care of the physical, mechanical and visual characteristics of the floor base. For the preparation of the floor base and for the positioning of the parquet, the European rules in force - the DIN 18 365 are often used, according to which the highest permitted value of remaining moisture in the floor base during the laying of the parquet is restricted to 2%.
LAYING OF HARDWOOD PARQUET:
The division of space before laying the parquet depends on the type of positioning. With English embroidery or the straight type of positioning the parquet, it is often useful to position the parquet in the direction of the light source
The distance from the wall should be approximately 10 mm. For better results we recommend you place the parquet onto the surface with an appropriate type of glue according to the type of wood and parquet length and to the type of parquet base (picture 1).
As required use pre-coatings before applying the glue. When applying the glue, the only valid instructions are those provided by the manufacturer of the glue and these instructions should be strictly adhered to and for whose accuracy we do not take responsibility. The amount of glue necessary is on average 0.9 to 1.2 kg/m2. The glue is placed on the base with an appropriate palette knife following instructions. On the base, only the quantity of glue that can be used in open time should be used. Precisely follow the manufacturers instructions of the glue for the quantity, tools and for the re-work to be used because it could negatively affect the positioning of the parquet. A higher level of moisture in the air may provoke blistering of the wood, i.e. rising of the parquet. Because of this, the parquet should not be placed when the level of moisture in the air is over 75%.
The temperature of the area where the parquet is to be placed should not be under 14°C. Glue should not be placed in the junction of the slots and nib. Before final positioning, the parquet should be pressed into the glue with slight arm pressure being assembled and tamped with a panel for tamping parquet. The side of the parquet with the nib is placed towards the wall. It is recommended that an identical weight be placed on the parquet to achieve a better junction of the parquet with the base (this is recommended for longer and wider parquets).

GRINDING AND VARNISHING:
After the parquet is laid grinding follows in 3 phases: In the first phase the parquet is ground with type 40 granulation sandpaper, subsequently with type 60 granulation. Then, follows the puttying stage (putty varnish + fine wooden surface) and after that the second phase with type 100 granulation sandpaper. The parquet is then ready for the first layer of the basic varnish. After 24 hours the final varnishing can begin. The following day the third phase of grinding the parqet with a grind net follows, using granulation 150, followed by the final varnishing. Before each varnishing the floor base needs to be thoroughly cleaned from any dirt and all dust needs to be vacuumed, both on the base itself and in all approaching spaces. Varnishing is not recommended if the relative moisture in the room is over 60%.
Recommendation: Water based varnish, producer: BONA.
MAINTAINING HARDWOOD PARQUET:
For every day cleaning of the varnished and oiled floors, the BONA CARE SYSTEM is used. Do not put water onto the flooring as it may provoke blistering of the parquet. It is necessary to place polycarbonate transparent film under the wheels of chairs and furniture legs to avoid mechanical damage of the parquet surface (scratches and cuttings). Try to maintain a around 50% level of moisture in the air.
